EP02: Field Recording

In this session we will explore the art of field recording. We will begin by analysing  some different recording techniques and look at their use in sound art composition and other mediums. Participants will be set a short task to record a sound walk around their house/ flat or street, which we will then discuss in relation to sound memory. In the second part of the workshop we will contextualise our own investigation through listening to two contrasting pieces. I will illustrate how field recording can be a radical tool to build a sound world or a sense of place and also distort an environment. I hope from this session participants will engage in thinking about how certain sounds make them feel and how we can capture these sounds to tell a personal story.
