02 Feb 2021, 20:00 – 21:00 GMT
Live Zoom session
This session will focus on the use of archive recordings and interviews in sound art practice. I will begin by introducing 'audio voyeurism', through listening to some cassette tapes I recently discovered. Recorded by my Grandad before I was born, they contain a mixture of secretly recorded family discussions and gatherings, horse races and music compilations. We will discuss how tapes like this can inform us on social history and how we should use the material. Â In the second part of the session we will investigate techniques on handling this material in sound art through looking at different sound artists as well as my own practice.
