Enter Tim Shaw's brain as he plugs you into his eyes (with a wearable camera) and ears (with binaural microphones) in a live stream of a walk he takes in an, as of yet, unknown part of the world.
Net Walk is a sound and video piece that uses different listening and visual technologies to create a walking performance which is broadcast online. Net Walk engages with the act of recording and broadcasting as a performance in response to the soundscapes and networked topologies the performer walks through.
The performer collects acoustic and electromagnetic signals from the immediate environment and transmits them to audience members who are looking and listening in via an online stream.
Environmental sounds and WiFi networks are sensed and sonified through specially made equipment. Using a DIY system the performer can process and manipulate the collected sounds and visuals and build an improvised composition with the sonic environment which is moved through.
Each performance is specific to its geographical and temporal context and the performance system has been designed to manifest this site-responsiveness. All four of the walks will take place in Switzerland.
